KitsuneKon & WausaubiCon

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 1, 2011, 7:32 PM
Thank you KitsuneKon for the wonderful time!  For a first year con they did extremely well.  I bet so many wonderful people as well as got to see some cool people I met at previous cons.  Its so awesome to start seeing so many familiar faces.

KitsuneKon does have lots of room for improvement as far as the artist alley goes, but for what they had to work with things were pretty smooth though any complications were poorly resolved.

While at KitsuneKon, I signed up for WausaubiCon, a new anime/scifi/gaming con in Wausau, WI.  I'm excited to see another new convention in Wisconsin and look forward to boothing there.

They do have some odd rules for the Artist Alley which is turning people away.  They have a no fan art policy which doesn't apply to me, but does apply to many of my friends and thats a bummer.  But in some ways I sort of side with the no fan art rule.  Even if I make fan art characters in my style I just personally feel wrong selling it and won't ever accept commissions to do so.  Thats just me.

Don't get me wrong though, I won't look down on anyone who does make fan art because some of it is really cool.  A lot of my friends are insanely talented and sometimes its just fun to see things like Link hook-shooting Batman in the junk...

Wait, what? No fan art policy? O.O I think I missed that part! Ack! I'm screwed!

This is going to be another one of those cons where I thank god for Angry Foxes....

Zing still has space open, I'm debating whether or not to go to that or Anime Iowa, I can afford one or the other right now

You might be able to find ways around it, and who knows if they'll even enforce it. They're rules seem to have a lot of gray areas. You may want to read the thread in the forums about their explanation of Fan Art. Maybe you can make some sense of it.

Any Ideas of when Anime Iowa Registration even opens? I'm curious how much a table costs.

They're taking artist apps now, though I dont think registration is formally open. And its $100 for the weekend.

Derpderp, I kinda wanted to try Wausau since it could potentially be fun with me having family in town, but their rules are silly. I'm totally cool with the no fanart thing, since I'm DYING for my OCs to get more love and attention and I'm always psyched when they sell, but it's the banning of selling multiple copies that gets me. If they want me to sell an original work, and I want to make a decent amount of money on anything colored, there's no way I could sell anything for less than $50, and even that is cheating myself. ;^; I do hope it goes well for you, though, and do tell us how it works out!

We must definitely hang out again some time before NakamaCon! It's too far away!

I don't think its possible for them to enforce the print rule. They would need additional rules stating how they will monitor and the stipulations as too how many prints are considered to be "limited edition". I think they just dont want to see kids with MS Paint doodles printed on generic paper.

It does bother me that they have these rules and they aren't even an established convention.
We'll see how it goes!

YES! We should hang out some time! That would be sweet! Feel free to hit me up whenever, I'd love to chill with the Madison crew sometime! *highfive*

Yes yes! Are you working lately? You'll have to let us know what your schedule is, too, so we can figure stuff out!

Mondays are generally bad days for me but Tuesdays -Thursdays I work from 9-3:30. I usually never work fridays-sundays :D It would be glorious to hang out sometimes. I sometimes meet up with a different art group thursdays and some saturdays, but I've been missing those due to the cons lately.
ANywho, hit me up sometime!

I was thinking of doing some fanart prints (most of them were from awesome commissions I got at Kitsune) but seeing as Wausaubicon objects to those, I'll just stick to what I do best...my OC's. So it's not a total loss.

Yeah, I don't have any fan art so I don't have much to worry about, but I will miss my friends who won't be there because of that and some of the other rules they have listed...
